First Foray

I actually didn't have anything in mind - no exact plan as to how I would start my first 100-peso adventure. I just looked out the jeep window, watching city establishments quickly pass my view, trying to get an inspiration on what to do. Geez... so much for the "exciting adventure' huh? Anyhow, the jeep was already in Bolton Street when I saw Reyes Haircutters. Aha! I need a new hairstyle! Inspiration ^^ I went inside and inquired about the cost of a haircut. 49 pesos. Perfect! I was told to wait and sit by one of the chairs while the receptionist asked the trio of hair cutters sitting close by which of them would take me as their customer. They just all stared back at her. Uh-oh. Shortly, all three of them stood up and presumably went to each of their stations (I actually only saw one of them go to his own station due to my limited vision of the whole place). I got the feeling that he, the one in my field of vision was the one to cut my hair but I wasn't too sure. Our eyes fleetingly meet but never really meeting. You know what I mean? I continued to sit, wait, and look around the place. By now, he's already pointedly looking at me while I pretended innocence. Hey, no one's told me anything yet, right? The receptionist then called my attention and told me to go over the station, pointing to the one I was avoiding to touch gazes with, the one whose face was with extreme boredom and mild irritation written all over it. Oh my... So, what cut do you want, he asked. I told him anything will do, anything to change my look so long as it suits me. What do you want, he asked again. What do you recommend, I asked back. I should not go for a short hairstyle as my hair is very curly and if I do so, mubukad xa. I'll cut layers all around to minimize the volume. The expert has decreed and all I had to say in the matter was a timid nod in surrender to his mercies. After a while, I noticed he was only sniping away a few centimeters off my hair. Can I have it shorter like just below my chin? I asked. His face transformed in to a mix of emotions - extreme boredom, plain irritation and frustration. I was almost afraid for myself back there. Ayoko ng eskandalo! He then quickly abandoned me and went over to the receptionist area. And whine about me, I presume. Then he went back to me and continued sniping away - now inches - off my hair, after taking a very deep breath. Ganito pala ang experience ng 49-peso haircut. Natawa na lang ako sa sarili ko. Kakaiba din. Hehehe. And so, I now sport a shorter version of my hair then but with more pronounced layers, longest ends touching my shoulders. I paid and went out the salon, eager to move on with my mission. I walked along San Pedro Street and shortly came upon Unitop. The store is known for selling a wide variety of merchandise with affordable price tags. I was a bit held up by their Christmas decor displays when I thought of buying a utility brush. When I found the one I liked, I checked for the price. 25 pesos. Wait a minute. Let's do the math. I calculated and figured out that minus my expenses thus far will only leave me exactly the amount needed to get back home. So, I went ahead and paid for the brush. Hahaha. At dito matatapos ang adventure ko for the day. I was about to go out of the store when I received a text from my sister inviting me to a free facial courtesy of Mary Kay Cosmetics. Oohhh! Why not! From Unitop San Pedro, I walked towards Regina Complex in CM Recto Street. There I joined my mother, my sister and her husband, and her mother in-law. All five of us were treated to an educational and fun activity. Did you know you are to use only your middle and ring fingers to when touching your face? Why? Because the index fingers or our pointers exert more than enough pressure on our facial skin and accumulated pressure will lead to fine lines and wrinkles. Also, did you know there are five steps to taking care of your face? Cleanse. Exfoliate. Freshen. Moisturize. Protect. It was fun having to try out their products and learning new things on skin care. We even got individual consultation about our skin needs. After the consultation however, I asked leave of my companions as I have to go back home already. With the exact change in hand, I handed my fare to the jeepney driver. And with that ends my first 100-peso adventure. :) Cost: Tricycle (back&forth) = 12.00 Jeep (back&forth) = 14.00 Haircut = 49.00 Utility brush = 25.00 Total = 100.00

  1. for your first adventure, it was fun but i was a bit worried with what the hair cutter might do to your hair, hehehe. i actually had the same reaction about the 49-peso haircut, hehe. since it's cheap, the hair cutters won't give you the good customer service that you deserve. tsk tsk tsk. kulang na lang siguro sabunutan ka, hahahaha. but i still am hopeful that not all 49-peso hair cutters are like that, hehehe...

    until your next adventure! :)
